Benefits of solar energy
As known to all, the sun provides us with energy in two forms, namely heat and light. The energy that the sun provides can be used for various purposes. The solar energy can be used to heat water for household purposes as well as in businesses. The energy provided by the sun can also be fruitfully used to produce or generate electricity. The energy that the sun provides is referred to as solar power. Though the solar energy has been used by mankind since time immemorial rather since the start of mankind, the creation of electricity from the energy of the sun was discovered only recently in the year of 1954.
Energy from the sun or solar energy reaches the earth in the form of electro magnetic waves, which is similar to radio waves, though the frequency range is different. The available energy from the sun is generally expressed in energy per time per unit area, like watts per square metre, which is written as W/m. Some of the energy of the sun that travels to the earth gets absorbed, in its path while it passes the earth’s atmosphere. Generally the amount of solar energy that is available to the earth is dependent on a few factors, such as the height of the sun in the sky and the present cloud conditions. The location is also a factor, if the monthly or annual basis is considered.
Generally, every body has an idea about what is solar energy but not many know that solar energy is primarily is of two categories. They are namely, solar photovoltaic energy and solar thermal energy. The former category of solar energy was mainly invented by scientists, for the purpose of capturing solar energy and turning it into electricity. The solar electricity was used to provide power to satellites in space. This category of solar energy is used to provide power to certain calculators and watches. The solar photovoltaic power is also used to power remote telephones in slime regional areas. This category of solar energy is also used in solar water heater units. The latter category of solar energy, namely solar thermal energy also includes solar hot water falls.
Almost every one is aware of solar energy and is familiar to the fact that solar energy is highly efficient source of energy. However not many know the numerous ways in which solar energy is of help. There are many advantages that mankind is now reaping for solar energy. While talking about the advantages of solar energy, the first thing that comes to mind is that it is highly cost efficient. After the initial investments are done with, solar energy becomes more or less free.

One of the most important advantages of solar energy is that it is environment friendly. It is renewable, clean and sustainable.
